NEW ORLEANS – The Sun Belt announced its men’s basketball player of the week on Tuesday – Corey Allen, senior guard from Georgia State.
Allen knocked down six 3-pointers and finished with a team-high tying 20 points as Georgia State topped the College of Charleston 72-55. Allen went 7-of-9 from the floor, including 6-of-7 from beyond the arc, while also pulling down six rebounds, swiping two steals and dishing out an assist in 29 minutes. The Panthers, now 6-1, have won four straight entering Sun Belt Conference play.
For the season, Allen is averaging 15.3 points and 4.3 rebounds per game. The senior has knocked down 27 3-pointers, the most of any player in the conference. Allen is shooting 54.9 percent from the floor and 56.3 percent from beyond the arc.
This season, the 12 Sun Belt schools will be split into a West Division and an East Division and will play divisional opponents during the regular season to minimize travel amid the COVID-19 pandemic. The first Sun Belt Conference-only games are set for New Year’s Day 2021.
All 12 schools will compete in the Sun Belt Conference Championship which will be held March 5-8, 2021 in Pensacola, Fla.
