MOUNT VERNON, Ga. – The College of Coastal Georgia Mariners earned their first victory on the road against the Brewton Parker Barons 85-63. Coastal Georgia outscored Brewton Parker 30-25 in the first half and 55-38 in the second.
Transfer junior Kenny Brown recorded a game-high 32 points for the Mariners. He scored twice as many points as the next highest on the court tonight. Brown also recorded four rebounds and one assist to aid in the Mariner victory.
Senior Jordon Parks recorded his second double-double of the season in just two games. He tallied 10 rebounds a game-high and 16 points.
Senior Vidmantas Kaciuska totaled 14 points in the road game as well. He added four rebounds, a game-high five assists, and a steal.
As a team, the Mariners shot 48.5 percent from the field, 30.6 perfect from behind the arc, and 66.7 percent from the free-throw line. They also managed to score seven points off turnovers, four second-chance points, and 11 bench points. The Mariners led the Barons with 12 assists, six blocks, and five steals.
Coastal Georgia did edge Brewton Parker with 40 rebounds to their 36. However, the Barons more than doubled the Mariners’ offensive rebounds. Coastal Georgia also racked up 21 personal fouls while the Barons only gave up 10. The Mariners gave up four more turnovers than the Barons.
Coastal Georgia secured a lead late in the first half and held onto it for the rest of the game, even extending their lead to 25 points.
Coastal Georgia and Brewton Parker will face off again, but this time the Mariners will have the home-court advantage. The two teams will play again on Nov. 9 following the women’s game.
